    本书聚焦中西民俗文化，立足弘扬中华民俗精粹。编者以英语为媒介，以比较为手法，从中国和西方英语国家文明的起源入手，选取饮食、民居、人生礼仪、民间信仰、民间艺术、民间语言及文学等中西方民众在长期的生产生活实践中创造和发展起来的风俗习惯和生活智慧，进行历时和共时的比对，促使学生全面了解中西方在物质民俗、社会民俗、精神民俗和语言民俗方面的差异及特色；通过探究中西民俗文化的渊源、发展和现状，引导学生赏析中西民俗文化，激发学生对本民族文化的热爱，增强民族文化自信，提高跨文化交际能力。
