    本书呈现给读者的是在北京四所高中进行的学生英语泛读情况的调查，侧重于调查英语简写读物在高中生中的使用情况，试图了解高中阶段英语泛读的情况以及回答英语简写读物是否适合其目标读者这个问题。作者运用调查问卷、访谈、测试等手段进行数据收集和分析，在回答研究问题的同时，也对英语教学和英语简写读物提出了意见和建议。
