儒勒·凡尔纳（1828-1905），生于法国南特的一个中产阶级家庭，是一位多产的优秀科幻作家、剧作家和诗人。其中，使他闻名于世的是他的科幻作家的身份。凡尔纳的科幻小说著作颇丰，其中最著名的是他的代表作“三部曲”——《格兰特船长的儿女》《海底两万里/经典文学名著》《神秘岛》，以及《气球上的五星期》《地心游记》等。凡尔纳被公认为“现代科幻小说之父”，他的作品对后世的科幻文学流派影响颇为深远。2005年是凡尔纳的百年忌辰，法国将这一年定为“凡尔纳年”。
